The ScotiaBank Arena has a rich history as one of Toronto’s foremost entertainment venues. To commemorate its 25th year Daniel Tate (of The Flyer Vault) was asked to produce a body of work showcasing the venue's history. I was brought onto the project as the main designer to develop the book's visual direction, layout structures, asset treatment, and did the layout and design for every page, section, and cover.
The project was originally scoped to be a hundred page book, but quickly ballooned to 400+ pages of concert history, ephemera, and fan accounts. This meant that publishing the book within the same year was an incredible undertaking - often having to juggle between beginning to develop new sections and cleaning up and revising older ones to suit the new assets being added.
Due to some of the assets’ distress and age the scrapbook aesthetic seemed like a fitting choice to capture both the history as well as the energy of the live performance. Of course, not every event could be represented so my proposal to Daniel was to work a definitive timeline through the book to ensure that every performance is featured.
